WE ARE THE HOMESTEAD COMMUNITY

The Homestead Community of Washington State is a non-profit organization that depends on funding from our generous donors, sponsors and local community partners to provide housing resources for children and youth touched by the foster care system.

We provide subsidized housing and support to foster families. Not all foster homes are large enough to house siblings. We strive to create homes with space for sibling groups to minimize the trauma of being separated.

Our Mission

To create a community of foster
homes and resources for children
in the Foster Care system,
working to minimize childhood
trauma by keeping siblings together.

The Challenge

Washington State is facing a crisis in the foster care program which increases the need for homeless youth housing. This is a crisis that involves the most vulnerable among us. Demand is outstripping supply for foster homes and there is a shortage of hundreds of homes. The number of licensed foster homes in Washington state has declined by 17% since 2007. Nearly a quarter of kids who reach the age of 18 end up homeless with no place to call home. When we intervene in the life a child, we save not just a life, but a lifetime.

Our solution

The Homestead Community aims to keep sibling groups together by providing subsidized housing in larger homes for licensed foster families. We will work with the State of Washington and other local agencies to provide a safe, loving, and stable home for these youth.
